Product Description
A born food-lover, raised in California on the best Mexican food in the country” and her father’s traditional Southern soul food,” Alicia C. Simpson couldn’t imagine giving up her favorite dishes to become vegan. Animal-free food might be healthier, but could it match the tastes of homelike fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, or a bowl of chili? Three years after Alicia took the vegan plunge, Quick and Easy Vegan Comfort Food answers that question with a resounding yes!” Here is the essential cookbook for any of America’s more than 6 million vegans who miss the down-home tastes they remember (or want to try), or for vegetarians and even meat-eaters who want to add more plant-based foods to their diets, but don’t know where to start. Comfort-seeking cooks will find: - Easy-to-prepare, animal-free versions of classics like Spicy Buffalo Bites, Ultimate Nachos, Baked Ziti and more
- 65 delicious combinations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with flavors from around the world, like Chinese Take-In” or Tijuana Torpedo”
- Everything you need to know to start your vegan pantry, and why being vegan is easier, less expensive, and more delicious than you might think.
With spirit and style, Alicia shows just how easyyes, and comfortingvegan food can be.

My new go to family cook book! August 30, 2010 Michelle (SC ,USA) My favorite go to book to avoid eating out comfort foods for my kids that still want McDonald's.
O.M.G. The cheeze sauce. August 17, 2010 MJ Meyerson (Petoskey, MI) Other reviews commented on the cheeze sauce (from the Mac and Cheeze on page 84), which was the primary reason I bought this book. Let me tell you, I would have paid the price for this book just for that recipe. It's amazing. My kids had NO idea it wasn't "real" cheese sauce, even when they saw the evidence on the counter (potatoes, carrots, onions, nuts, etc). They LOVED it, and there is no tougher audience than 9 and 12 year old boys. The other recipes look great as well - love how she organized recipes into simple meals plans. I am SO glad I bought this book.
Has completely changed my view on vegan cooking! August 16, 2010 T. Trent (Arizona) My boyfriend (non vegetarian) and I (part-time vegetarian) both have been very impressed by this book! So far I've made the enchiladas (her sauce is AMAZING, btw) and the Tuno Casserole and both are just stunning! NO FAKE TUNA & it's completely amazing! Smells & tastes like tuna casserole.
I can't wait for Alicia to write more cookbooks so I can line an entire shelf with her deliciously impressive (and delectably deceptive ;-) ) recipes!
Well, there's one good recipe.. August 16, 2010 Leah Capitini (New York, NY) I was very disappointed with this cookbook. Most of the recipes are very simple, intuitive, and uninspired. I purchased this because Ms. Simpson's orange chik'n recipe was recommended to me. I figured with such a delicious dish, the rest of the book should be fabulous as well. I was a little upset how so many of her recipes cop out and rely on packaged products, such as "vegan cheese," rather than coming up with a creative recipe. There is also at least one recipe in this book which is a carbon copy of one found in "Vegan Brunch," which was published in the same year. I highly recommend Isa Chandra-Moskowitz's book over this one.
I gave this book three stars because it is my go-to book for one particular recipe, chicken seitan. It's a spin on an old favorite which can be cooked in a variety of ways, and I save the liquid that the seitan is cooked in because it becomes a delicious base for a soup for a future dinner. I found the original seitan recipe to wind up a bit dry, but I do credit this book for my own interpretation.
Super Excited... August 4, 2010 UrbanVeganLA (Los Angeles, CA) I've purchased quite a large handful of vegan cookbooks recently since I officially became a vegan last February 2010. I have to say that I am excited to receive this book in the mail because many cookbooks out there are for "seasoned vegans" and don't go through some of the basics (some do), but those that don't fall short. Just by looking through the preview pages on Amazon, I can already see how simple and user friendly these recipes will be in comparison to some of the other vegan cookbooks that I own. Don't get me wrong, this book is also great for the seasoned vegan out there - who doesn't need a book with simple & delicious recipes??? I own a TON of vegan cookbooks, and my list is growing by the week, and I find that this book will make a lovely addition and I can't wait to use it (I will post an update on the recipes once I receive the book later this week)!
