Amazon.com Review It won't braise the tofu, but the Cook'n Vegetarian package will do almost everything else to help prepare healthy, meat-free meals. Installation and setup are as simple as breaking an egg, and both novice cooks and expert chefs will appreciate the easy-to-use applications included. There are hundreds of vegetarian recipes tucked away inside--soups, entrees, desserts, and more--and a simple system for adding new ones. Colorful photos illustrate the recipes and will motivate more than one shopping trip; a convenient utility will tally what's needed automatically and print lists organized by grocery aisle and price. Users interested in keeping track of their nutritional intake will also find it easy to score calories, fat, cholesterol, and other variables and adjust accordingly. The menu planner uses an intuitive drag-and-drop menu to add healthy dishes and complete meals to weekly or monthly lists; integrated with the shopping and nutritional utilities, this makes long-term health and budget planning a breeze. Cooks who want to keep their computers away from pots of boiling water can print individual recipes on 3-by-5 cards for kitchen reference. Though a little less glamorous without the pictures, they're sure to save money on hardware maintenance. Those leery of using software to help in the kitchen would do well to invest a little money and time in Cook'n Vegetarian--the easy improvements in health maintenance, budgeting, and efficiency should convince anyone that information wants to be fat-free. --Rob Lightner

Pre Windows95 Software March 18, 2007 Michael J. Kehrli 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The interface is pretty awful. Looks like it was writted for Windows 3.1 (pre Windows95). For this price the interface should have been modernized. Also, you have to put the CD in in order to use it. However, it does do ok at cataloging your own recipes which is what i wanted it for. The recipes already in it are not very vegetarian, using meat, sugar, butter and other stuff. Some are veggie though.
Overall, I'm disappointed in the interface, and the fact i have to put the CD in every time i want to use it.
From Cheryl in Michigan February 23, 2006 C. Pantano (Traverse City, MI) I love this program. It is easy to enter the recipes and simple to use. The only thing I did not like is that you could not spell check your added recipes. It also comes with many good recipes.
I love this software August 12, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Cook'n for Vegetarians comes with tons of Vegetarian recipes that are delicious, and such a variety. The software is perfect for entering your own recipes. And for those of us who are watching our weight too, you can enter your own nutritional information for any lite ingredient and the software will automatically compute the recipe's nutritional value for you. Also, I host parties for my family often and it's so easy to change the number of people you'd like to serve and the program automatically changes the ingredient amounts for you! I've added more recipe cookbook titles to my collection since and loved them all. You can download the cookbooks once you have the software from [local website]. I give it 5 stars!
Not for vegetarians; clunky, non-intuitive interface January 1, 2002 25 out of 27 found this review helpful
I was looking forward to a product aimed at vegetarians. Somehow, a food listing that includes bacon bits, bacon drippings, and anchovies is missing the point (so far I've only gotten to the B's in deleting non-vegetarian ingredients and recipes). Some people confusedly think eating chicken or fish qualifies them as a vegetarian, so maybe that is the audience this program seeks (although that still doesn't explain the bacon). Earlier I posted my inability to customize nutrition information. A quick response from support showed me how...the information was not located in the manual and was not at all intuitive (and I work in computers all day every day).
Great variety--Excellent! November 8, 2001 Kristy Winger (New York, NY) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
It's not easy finding good vegetarian recipes. That's why I was excited to find that someone had compiled a CD full of them. The variety on this CD is AMAZING! I was surprised to see that I could organize not only my own recipes but even the ones that came pre-programmed in the software. Whenever I find a really good recipe on the CD, I put it in my own category so I can use it again later.I'm not very computer literate but this CD was a snap to use. I just popped it in my CD drive and away I went. I highly recommend it.
